Welcome to Our Farm

The Texas Freeze

As everyone knows this past week has been a cold and snowy week in south Texas.  At Wholesome Harvest Farm it looks bleak at the moment.  We are not sure what has survived .  It will take a week or two to see all the damage that has been done to the garden and citrus orchard. The biggest difficulty we had to overcome to take care of the animals was getting them water.  That said, our ducks and chickens have survived and we have a huge quantity of eggs which we will bring to the farmers markets.   First of all we lost all water service from our municipal supply, and a frozen well.  We had to use propane torches to thaw our waterers and then collect melt water from the snow on the roofs.  Come by this  Sunday at Alamo Heights Farmers Market in San Antonio and pick up the plentiful eggs that supermarkets are limiting.  All in all it was a trying time but we came through it and look forward to a bountiful spring.
